The Heirlume Story
Some places are built.
Others are grown over time.
The Heirlume didn’t begin as a venue. It began in 1976, when Aaron’s grandparents purchased the family farm that would become one of the most meaningful places in his life. As a child, there was nowhere else he’d rather be. While friends spent weekends at the lake, Aaron spent his on the farm alongside his grandfather, riding tractors, working the land and learning to appreciate a slower way of life. It wasn’t just where memories were made. It was where he always hoped he’d end up.
As life moved forward, the farm never left his heart. Even while building a home elsewhere, Aaron quietly hoped the opportunity would come to purchase it. When it finally did, it felt like everything had fallen into place. Bringing the property back into the family wasn’t the end of the story. It was the beginning of a new chapter.
When Joshua came into Aaron’s life, so did a shared passion for creating places people genuinely enjoy. Together, we built Little Mountain Home, not simply as a furniture business, but as a way to help people create homes where life happens. Over the years, we learned that beautiful spaces have the power to bring people together. A dining table becomes the center of family traditions. A favorite chair becomes part of someone’s evening routine. A home becomes the backdrop for a lifetime of memories. Without realizing it, we were already living the philosophy that would one day shape The Heirlume.
The farm naturally became an extension of that philosophy. Family holidays, birthdays, cookouts and weekends with friends became some of our favorite moments. Aaron has always loved opening the farm to others, whether that meant introducing someone to a horse for the first time, sitting around a fire long after sunset or simply giving people a place to slow down and enjoy each other’s company. Before long, we realized we weren’t the only ones who loved being here. More and more people began asking if they could celebrate their own milestones on the property, and the answer was always easy.
The Heirlume exists because we believe beautiful places are meant to be shared.
The name reflects that belief. Inspired by the word heirloom, Heir represents the legacy we inherit from those who came before us. It reminds us that the most meaningful things we pass from one generation to the next aren’t always possessions. They’re traditions, values and memories. Lume was intentionally chosen because it speaks to light. We all inherit a light from the people who shape our lives, and we believe that light is meant to be shared. It’s our hope that every gathering here leaves people feeling a little more connected, a little more grateful and leaves them carrying memories that they will cherish long after they’ve gone home.
The second half of our name carries an even more personal meaning. Ashley Reed was Aaron’s late son, and long before this became a venue, the farm was known as Ashley Reed Farm in his honor. Keeping his name as part of The Heirlume wasn’t simply about remembering the past. It was about ensuring his legacy continues to be part of every new memory made here.
Looking back, it’s easy to see how every step led us here. A family farm became home. A shared passion became a business. A place where friends and family gathered became a place where others could celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. We never set out to build just another venue. We simply wanted to share a place that has meant so much to us, and in doing so, create a place that might mean something to you, too.
With love,
Aaron & Joshua
